Artists Veronica Waechter Danes and Angelo Cavagnarro were awarded a travel grant in 2023 from YVRAF as an artist collective to travel to the Pitt Rivers Museum in Oxford, England this past spring.
Veronica Waechter Danes writes:
Our artist collective had the privilege to visit with ancestral creations made over 100-200 years ago, pieces that we have been studying for more than 10 years. These were pieces made during the times of our great, great, grandparents, with cultural knowledge intricately imbedded in them. It is such a different experience to view ancestor belongings right there in front of you, without the museum glass in-between. Research visits like this make a tremendous impact on contemporary creative conception, production, and storytelling. We will never forget our visit, and want to thank all of the generous YVRAF staff and donors, as well as the kind team at Pitt Rivers.
