The application process is OPEN for 2022 Emerging Artist Scholarship program.

Applicants for the Emerging Artist Scholarship Program must be between 17 and 29 years of age in 2022 (born between 1993 and 2005).

Education and/or Art Training

Describe your work and volunteer experience in or outside of your community.  This includes paid and/or unpaid work and does not have to be directly related to your art practice.

In this section you will describe the artwork you make, your interests in the arts and how your art practice connects to your First Nations community and culture. Please see the application guidelines for examples on what you could include here.

Your personal statement is an opportunity for you to include any information about yourself that is not covered elsewhere in the application and that you feel is important for the Jury to know.

Proposed Use of Scholarship Award

Up to 500 words

Applicants to the Emerging Artist Scholarship Program may propose to do one of the following (refer to Application Guidelines for details):

1) To work/study with a mentor artist
Describe what your mentor will be teaching you and your proposed mentorship schedule and attach confirmation from your mentor.

2) To attend a school of art or training program
Describe the proposed program of study and include details regarding the length of the program and its structure.  Attach confirmation or an acceptance letter from the school.

Proposed Scholarship Artwork

Up to 500 words

Describe in detail the type of artwork that you would propose to create with your Scholarship award. Please consider the airport display case dimensions (43” wide x 29” deep x 66” high) when describing the artwork you intend to create.

Scholarship Award Budget

Provide information here on how the scholarship funds will be used as described above.
Budget items might include tuition/school fees, tools and materials, travel to see mentor artist, living expenses*, honorarium to a mentor artist* or other expenses.

If you are working with a mentor artist and intend to compensate them for their time, it is recommended that you discuss and confirm this arrangement with them in advance of submitting this application.

Supporting Documents & Portfolio Upload

Please include the following Supporting Documents with your Portfolio:

  • Letter of Support (from an art teacher, mentor or individual with an art background who can speak to your artwork and artistic potential)
  • Confirmation Letter (from proposed mentor or school of art or training program you will be attending)

Please use the following guidelines to create your portfolio sample.

Portfolio Guidelines:

  • Include no more than ten photographs of your work.
  • If you submit work that was created with another artist, please name the other artist(s) and identify that the work is a collaboration or that you were an assistant on the project.

Film/video portfolio submissions:

  • If you wish to include an example of your film or video work in your portfolio you may submit this through Dropbox or a similar file sharing medium. You must notify us that you will be submitting film/video and by which method by contacting in advance of your submission.
  • If you are submitting film or video work for your entire portfolio you may submit no more than three videos at a maximum of five minutes each.
  • If you are submitting your film or video work as part of your portfolio, each video submitted is the equivalent of submitting three photographs. For example, if you submit two videos you may only include four additional  photographs in your portfolio submission.

Digital portfolio submissions:

  • Use .jpg or .tif file types.
  • Files must have a minimum 1024 x 768 pixel resolution.
  • If you are submitting a movie or video file please contact us for format preferences.
  • If possible, name/title your photos so the document/file name corresponds with the Portfolio Description Sheet and includes your last name and the title of the work. E.g.:

List the artwork you have included with your portfolio. Please refer to the naming instructions above. 

Please list title, dimensions and media for each work and ensure that the file names of the pictures submitted in the uploader match the titles in this box.
