It is with profound sadness that YVR Art Foundation announces the passing of one of our Board members, Bill McLennan.
Bill was on the YVR Art Foundation Board from 2010-2019 and continued to serve on Foundation committees after his Board term concluded. Before Bill joined the Foundation Board he was instrumental in setting up the permanent collection of art at the Vancouver International Airport (YVR).
Bill generously contributed his knowledge of Indigenous art and culture to support every aspect of the Foundation’s programs. He was the inspiration behind the creation of our Masterpiece Study Program, which provides travel grants for artists to visit and study museum collections of Indigenous art. His knowledge of art and museum collections was extraordinary, and he provided many of the introductions that have enabled the Foundation to establish our museum partnerships around the world.
Bill was also well known for his many other contributions including at the UBC Museum of Anthropology, the Image Recovery Project, the Canadian Museum of History’s Grand Hall and at the Freda Diesing School of Northwest Coast Art in Terrace.
Bill was an incredibly knowledgeable, generous and kind person who will be greatly missed by so many, including all of us at YVR Art Foundation. We send our heartfelt condolences to Bill’s family.
