To be eligible for a YVR Art Foundation Mid-Career Artist Scholarship award, applicants must: 

  • Be of BC or Yukon First Nations ancestry
  • Reside in BC or Yukon
  • Be 27 or older (year of birth 1990 or before)
  • Create visual art that reflects BC or Yukon First Nations' culture
  • Have completed basic art training
  • Have achieved local and/or provincial recognition through public presentation of their artwork
  • Wish to further their art careers and/or extend their work into a new scale or area
  • Be accepted to study/work with a master artist, at a formal art institution or on a special project that is of cultural significance to the artist’s community 
  • Be able to submit a portfolio of artwork that demonstrates the artist’s commitment to their practice

Scholarship recipients will be selected by a Jury, which will be comprised of First Nations artists and/or curators

Please note: If you indicate on your application that you will create an art work for exhibition at YVR for one year, the completed work must fit within the YVR display case dimensions and be delivered to YVR by May 1, 2018. In lieu of delivery of a completed art work for exhibition at YVR recipients may instead submit a report on their year’s art project and/or activities by May 1, 2018.

Amount

Each scholarship is worth $5,000. Mid-Career Artist Scholarship recipients will receive $2,000 at the Scholarship Awards Event on May 26, 2017 (or in the mail if the artist does not attend); $1,000 in November 2017 upon receipt of the mid-year update report; $1,000 upon receipt of the Report or delivery of their artwork, which must be received at YVR on or before May 1, 2018; and $1,000 at the Scholarship Awards Event on May 25, 2018 (or in the mail if the artist does not attend).

How to apply

There are two ways to apply:

  1. Fill out your application online. ONLINE APPLICATION.

    Applications submitted online through the YVR Art Foundation website must be received no later than 4:00pm on Friday January 27, 2017.

  2. Download the Guidelines & Application PDF, complete it and deliver it to the YVR Art Foundation. See instructions below.

Applications submitted via Canada Post must be postmarked no later than midnight, Friday January 27, 2017.

Deadline

Applications must be received by January 27, 2017. Any changes to the deadline will be posted on this site. Applicants will be notified in April and recipients will be formally announced in May.
