YVR Art Foundation Announces 2017 Scholarship Winners. Nine B.C. & Yukon First Nations artists recognized for creative excellence

YVR Art Foundation (YVRAF) today announced the nine B.C. & Yukon First Nations artists who will each be awarded $5,000 for their creative excellence and commitment to further develop their art practice. The winners will be recognized at the annual YVRAF Awards Reception held at Vancouver International Airport (YVR). The reception will also include the unveiling of the 2016 scholarship recipients’ art works which will be exhibited at YVR for one year.

The winners of the 2017 YVR Art Foundation Youth Artist scholarships are:

• Austin Harry, age 24, Squamish, from Vancouver
• Jamie Nole, age 24, Tahltan/Nisga'a, from Terrace
• Atheana Picha, age 17, Kwantlen, from Delta
• Kelsey Sparrow, age 22, Musqueam, from Vancouver
• Towustasin Stocker, age 24, Haida, from Masset
• Veronica Waechter, age 21, Gitxsan, from Burnaby
• Joshua Watts, age 22, Nuu'chah'nulth/Lake Cowichan, from North Vancouver

The 2017 Mid-Career Artist Scholarship recipients are:

• Thomas Cannell, Musqueam, from Vancouver
• Philip Gray, Ts'msyen (Tsimshian), from West Vancouver
